Christmas Tree Pop Up Card with Peeing Dog

Merry Christmas! (about a month late). This is a very late Christmas pop up I made with another Rich template. BOY was it complicated to cut.

So this was the way the tree left my house (a perfect square pyramid), but unfortunately when it arrived at the recipient's doorstep the tree's top section was flat and didn't pop the way it was supposed to =(

I guess 2 weeks of being flat in the mail made it stay that way, because it was only paper. I did try using cardstock so it'd be more sturdy, but cardstock is much, MUCH harder to cut.

p.s. Dear You-Know-Who-You-Are, this was how it was supposed to look.

A little peek at the Dalmatian sneakily peeing in the tree, thinking no one can see her!

Close up of the peeing leg. It was supposed to resemble the recipient's Dalmatian (and I even copied the spots from photos of her!) but apparently girl dogs do not pee that way. Whoops.

Simple card front, with a lacy border and taped ribbon.

This was the first version I made, with thick cardstock instead of paper. Sturdier but extremely tedious to cut, and I made a mistake by cutting one corner of the tree. I even coloured the lights with glitter! though the sparkle can't be seen in the photo.

It was fun making this card! But I probably won't be doing it again anytime soon. Thanks for reading, have a sweet day everyone.

Baby Girl Pink Teddy Bear Pop Up Card with Quilled Heart

It's the middle of the week and still a while more to the weekend. But this treasury I was featured in, Dream in Color by Mary Louise is so bright and colorful it cheered me up for the rest of the day. The quilled heart gift tags in rainbow colours are especially cute!

I'm on holiday now and have been on a bit of a card-making craze. That, and going to the gym are what make up the bulk of my life now. There are 2 cards that I cannot show because the recipient hasn't gotten them and 3 completed cards that are sitting on my desk right now.

Here's one of them!

I tried the same teddy bear pop up again (by Rich of Creative Pop Up Cards), but in pastel pink this time for a baby girl card.
This is so versatile : it can be used as a baby announcement card, congratulations on a new baby, invitations to a baby shower, a little girl's birthday - the list is endless!

The little sweetie in her favorite red hair bow and clutching a pacifier in her left paw.

She was supposed to be holding a milk bottle too, but I kept cutting it wrongly and in the end, exasperated, I decided that she probably wouldn't be holding so many things anyway!

I also added punched red hearts to the corners.

Can't go for long without a teensy bit of quilling!

Front view.

And finally Little Pink Teddy says :
Happy Chinese New Year everybody!
新年快乐,祝你们身体健康,年年有余,万事如意!

p.s. Submitting this for a Crafty Challenge (the first I'm participating in)! The theme is Something New, and I'm submitting under New Baby. Fingers are crossed!

Pop Up Valentine's Love Bear Card with Quilled Heart

I've been a bit crazy about pop up cards lately. They're just as time consuming as quilled cards because extreme precision is required for every measurement, but when other crafters are generous enough to share their ready-drawn patterns, it becomes slightly easier!

Here's an adorable teddy bear by Rich from Creative Pop Up Cards

This little sweetheart pops up at you and presents you with a big red heart as the card is opened.

A simple quilled heart to adorn the front :)

One last peep.

My Love Spiral Pop Up Card got into yet another treasury!
What a week this is turning out to be.

Pop Up Red Flower Card

Lately college has been keeping me very busy, so I haven't had the time to try out new designs (and trust me, I've got lots and lots of ideas I'm dying to try out!). Still, I've been doing simple designs or remaking previous ones.

Here's a pop up flower that I made with Sabuda's template :

when the card is closed.

the outside is very very simple, just a little punched flower in the corner.

I have 10 cards to make in the next week *gulp*. It's a bulk order of the Love Spiral Pop Up Card that all of you seem to like very much =) Wish me luck!

Quilled Flowers and Pop Up Card

I think this is the most elaborate quilling project I have made so far. The whole card took me all of 11 hours to finish, and I still hadn't done my college homework. Slept at 4 a.m. that night, but it was worth it!

My little fringed pretty =) she reminds me of the pom poms I used to wave around when I was involved in high school Sports Day cheerleading.

Techniques used were : Basic quilling, fringing, double fringing and alternate side looping. Oh, and punching, if that counts. I punched out little pink butterflies to flutter around the sides =)

The inside of the card is my Love Spiral Pop Up Card - with a twist.
Instead of L-O-V-E, my customer/friend requested for the recipient's name to be the pop up. The spiral heart would take the place of an "A".

oh it's so pretty, my heart just broke to part with it. I do hope the person likes it! =D

p.s. I did this with inspiration from Inna, once again!

Gong Xi Fa Cai!

Hello everybody, Happy Chinese New Year and Gong Xi Fa Cai to you!

For all my international readers who don't know what I'm talking about, Gong Xi Fa Cai can be translated as "May you have happiness and prosperity this coming year!". Literally, it simply means "congratulations on your prosperity".

(aren't these cupcakes adorable? I love the cherry blossom tree!)

This Thursday is the first day of the Chinese New Year and is a great occasion for Chinese all over the world. We return to our hometowns, meet up with 'long-lost' relatives, eat traditional food (and lots of cookies and Chinese New Year goodies!), and just enjoy this happy time with family (a little like how Christmas is celebrated in the West). Children are always the happiest because we (anyone unmarried, not just children) get to receive angpau! Angpau are red packets with money inside - many people's favorite part of Chinese New Year =D

I will be going to my auntie's house in Negeri Sembilan, so I may not be updating for some time but will still be crafting!

In the meanwhile, here is a Chinese New Year treasury that my dear little paper clips have been featured in :

Remember the Love Spiral Pop Up Card that I made a while back?
Well, seems like this is everyone's favorite so far! I've sold so many of this that I could probably make one in less than 3 hours. It's been featured in 3 treasuries so far and 10 people have hearted it on Etsy! I feel so happy whenever I look at the listing and see the 10 hearts =)

Here are the treasuries, do drop by and share some love.

Have a great Chinese New Year everyone!

Flowerpot Accordion Card

I've been very busy ever since college started, but quilling is starting to become a bit of an obsession with me.

Can you guess what I've been busy with today? In shades of mint green, lime green and forest green =) I'll tell you in my next post, when I'm done with it!

That teeny little quilled rose among all the greens is my sad attempt at quilling a rose. Many times I've tried, using different methods and various tutorials, but still the perfect rose evades me. It's so frustrating! The coils are always loose so the petals are too far from one another. Any tips, anyone?

One thing to add to the List of Things to Do Before I Die : Quill a nice rose.

And just so you don't link away, annoyed at the lack of update =) here's something I worked on quite a while ago :

This is a 3-fold flowerpot accordion card.
The flowers glitter in the light, but as usual the details don't show in the photo.

Have a lovely flowery week!

Valentine's Day

Went a little crazy making Valentine's Day cards these past few days, and the above one was a design I've had in my head for quite some time. The heart spirals twice before ending in a larger heart.

A simpler card here =) more more more hearts.
Can be used for Valentine's, wedding anniversaries, mother's day, boyfriend's birthday, etc.

Sparkly spinning skater

I saw a spinning card tutorial on one of my favourite pop up card blogs, Cornerstone Cards and Pyrography, and decided to give it a try.

I've got glitter all over my table, my computer and my hands now (my friend even said there was a sparkle on my face!) but the skater is so pretty I don't feel like strangling someone anymore =)

The skater gives a little twirl the minute you open the card, as shown in the video below.

I don't know why the purple looks so dark here. The real card is more purpley, like in the first picture.

I could do this with anything that looks pretty spinning. Maybe a cupid for Valentine's, a snowflake, or a pink ballerina next!

Personal Christmas Cards

I've been making quite a lot of cards lately but just lazy to put up the photos (Picasa is about as fast as a snail.)

Here are my personal Christmas cards (which, in my personal opinion, are not as fanciful, no extra ribbons/embellishments/glitter, but make up for it with  layers of meaning).

The line upon which I designed this is :
"May our friendship continue to bloom and grow, rooted in the love of God".

As you can see the heart has 3 layers, symbolising our triune God.

Many of you who know me will recognize this little sweetie!
He is a bit out of place in this card (turtles don't climb red trees, do they?) but I wanted to add him anyway.

Yes, it's my SmileyTurtle, whom I draw everywhere I go =)
This is the inside part of the red tree card.

My mum had something a little more different : a Chinese character pop up card, for which I used my favorite shimmery blue-green cardstock.

"妈"
Mother. A word, carrying with it so many other meanings. Great love, supreme self sacrifice.

My mother is the most resilient woman I know. She's lived through many difficult experiences : the death of a beloved daughter, the betrayal of her most loved, the loss of 2 siblings. And yet here she is : where others might have crumbled, she stands firm and keeps on living her life to the fullest. A true lady, a woman highly respected and dearly loved.

After painstakingly carving the "妈" on the inside I was too tired (or lazy) to do anything too elaborate on the outside, so I simply gave it a little flourish with my best organza ribbon.
