Hello Kitty Sunshine and Garden Fence Card

~ hello everyone ~
...says kitty :)

My classmate had a custom request for Hello Kitty on the same background as Totoro, for another classmate who was crazy about Hello Kitty - everything she comes to class with is either pink, sparkly or Hello Kitty themed : bags, shoes, clothes, down to her hair accessories and sparkly pink phone.

Added some bling to her bow and hem for extra sparkle!

Her facial features were rather difficult because they were so tiny and I'd lose them as soon as I cut them.

A bigger bush than last time, and stray leaves on the ground to add a little liveliness.

Someone said Kitty looked Chinese because the dress is cheongsam-ish. What do you think?

I wasn't entirely sure how to quill a cute enough Kitty, so I used Google for inspiration. Finally found a card by Cheryl which was based on another quiller's Kitty - I would link the post, but Cheryl's blog is now open to invited readers only.

Oh well! Good day and hello everyone!

Update : Here is the link to Cheryl's post.

I've always loved flowers - and what a very lovely coincidence that it's perfect for quilling.

Rhinestones for sparkle and bling!

Inside.

Just listed on Etsy - here.

Happy Valentine's Day everyone - hope you have a flowery day!

Quilled Totoro Garden Fence Teacher Card

This is another Totoro card I quilled recently as a custom request.  She wanted a birthday card for her daughter's teacher, who decorated her classroom with Totoro.

Here's the rough sketch I started out with.

Close up of the quilled sun. If you look carefully you can see that the flowers on the bush are dimensional.

Little girl and her teacher sitting by the fence - those are their names written on the fence, and above the fence is the classroom name (Totoro Class). My customer was very cheery and encouraging, and her daughter was the most adorable little darling! Such a pleasure making this card for them.

And googly eyes are such fun to play with.

Totoro dust balls bounce about inside the card.  I think they're rather adorable!

My Love Spiral Pop Up Card was featured in two Etsy treasuries lately, do hop along and take a look at these lovelies!

Have a good week everyone!

More Quilled Flowers

Hello! I'm back!

My friend recently asked me to remake the card with quilled flowers that I made a while ago. I changed the designs of the flowers a little and the lining inside was decorated with hand drawn balloons, a bow and a birthday cake.

I've started using a paper shredder instead of hand cutting the strips, so you can see some detailing along the paper edges =)

The drawing was all done with glitter pens, but the shine doesn't show in the photo.

This card was super fun to make! But also extremely time consuming. I suppose beauty has a price ; )

Handmade lovelies

I've been buying on Etsy more than I've been selling lately, and that's due to my AS finals which are looming nearer and nearer.

So here's a post about my favorite purchases. As a handmade artist, I feel it my duty and pleasure to increase awareness and support for handmade artists everywhere, and these sellers really have amazing handiwork!

Flora event-rose-Swarovski Crystal-Imitation pearls -Polymer Clay Bracelets
I bought this bracelet and another pair of earrings from naturaler. Beautifully handcrafted flowers and great prices too! Well, for those of you who deal in USD, she offers the cheapest bargains on Etsy, including shipping. If you're converting to Malaysian Ringgit (like I am), it can get a little pricier, but it's well worth it nonetheless!

Music to My Ears - copper violin earrings
These elegant violin earrings are from The Queen's Dowry whose prices are on the high side =( but these violins were classic! I really wanted something to represent my love of music : singing, piano and the violin. One down, 2 more to go! I was a little disappointed that they weren't exactly as 3D as I imagined them to be though, but the intricate detail really made up for it : check out the shoulder rest!

This is a non-Etsy seller, Chatterbeads, and the owner actually attends a church not too far from mine. These birdy earrings are now one of my personal favorites and I wear them every few days. The jewelry she makes all show good taste and elegant design, reflected quite accurately in the price.

Long live handmade! =)

Pop Up Red Flower Card

Lately college has been keeping me very busy, so I haven't had the time to try out new designs (and trust me, I've got lots and lots of ideas I'm dying to try out!). Still, I've been doing simple designs or remaking previous ones.

Here's a pop up flower that I made with Sabuda's template :

when the card is closed.

the outside is very very simple, just a little punched flower in the corner.

I have 10 cards to make in the next week *gulp*. It's a bulk order of the Love Spiral Pop Up Card that all of you seem to like very much =) Wish me luck!

Quilled Flowers and Pop Up Card

I think this is the most elaborate quilling project I have made so far. The whole card took me all of 11 hours to finish, and I still hadn't done my college homework. Slept at 4 a.m. that night, but it was worth it!

My little fringed pretty =) she reminds me of the pom poms I used to wave around when I was involved in high school Sports Day cheerleading.

Techniques used were : Basic quilling, fringing, double fringing and alternate side looping. Oh, and punching, if that counts. I punched out little pink butterflies to flutter around the sides =)

The inside of the card is my Love Spiral Pop Up Card - with a twist.
Instead of L-O-V-E, my customer/friend requested for the recipient's name to be the pop up. The spiral heart would take the place of an "A".

oh it's so pretty, my heart just broke to part with it. I do hope the person likes it! =D

p.s. I did this with inspiration from Inna, once again!

Gong Xi Fa Cai!

Hello everybody, Happy Chinese New Year and Gong Xi Fa Cai to you!

For all my international readers who don't know what I'm talking about, Gong Xi Fa Cai can be translated as "May you have happiness and prosperity this coming year!". Literally, it simply means "congratulations on your prosperity".

(aren't these cupcakes adorable? I love the cherry blossom tree!)

This Thursday is the first day of the Chinese New Year and is a great occasion for Chinese all over the world. We return to our hometowns, meet up with 'long-lost' relatives, eat traditional food (and lots of cookies and Chinese New Year goodies!), and just enjoy this happy time with family (a little like how Christmas is celebrated in the West). Children are always the happiest because we (anyone unmarried, not just children) get to receive angpau! Angpau are red packets with money inside - many people's favorite part of Chinese New Year =D

I will be going to my auntie's house in Negeri Sembilan, so I may not be updating for some time but will still be crafting!

In the meanwhile, here is a Chinese New Year treasury that my dear little paper clips have been featured in :

Remember the Love Spiral Pop Up Card that I made a while back?
Well, seems like this is everyone's favorite so far! I've sold so many of this that I could probably make one in less than 3 hours. It's been featured in 3 treasuries so far and 10 people have hearted it on Etsy! I feel so happy whenever I look at the listing and see the 10 hearts =)

Here are the treasuries, do drop by and share some love.

Have a great Chinese New Year everyone!

Life is Sweet Blog Hop

Hello everyone, welcome to the 'Life is Sweet' Blog Hop!

Blog Hop

If you arrived here from Amna's blog, then you are on the right track! If you stumbled across this blog hop out of order, you can start from the beginning here with Sandy at Sweet Spot Cards. This is an international blog hop, with 14 quillers from every (inhabitable) continent participating and I feel so honored to be part of them! Do visit all the talented quillers on this hop so you can see all the wonderful projects they've created and win some lovely prizes along the way.

I'm a self taught quiller. I discovered quilling only 2 months ago and absolutely love it.  For this hop I did something that I've wanted to try for very long : 3D quilling!

As all of you know, I love flowers (you seldom catch me without a flower clip in my hair!). So when Sandy told us we could quill anything for this blog hop, it was a no brainer. FLOWERS! But it had to be more than the basic quilled flowers - hence these miniature quilled flowerpots. (I got the idea from another excellent quiller, Inna).

They're tinier than you might think! The dark red tulip is about 2.4 inches tall and the yellow flower is about 2.1 inches.

I am also having a giveaway!
One lucky reader will win a surprise handmade gift from me! (I haven't had the time to make it yet *blush* but it will definitely be created with lots of love!)

To stand a chance of winning, just leave me a comment below this post (don't forget to include your email!) and I will draw a winner on February 11th 2011. (I decided to make the candy last a bit longer).

Next up is Jacqueline from Africa!

If you get lost along the way, here are the list of bloggers in this quilling hop. Have a great weekend!

Flowerpot Accordion Card

I've been very busy ever since college started, but quilling is starting to become a bit of an obsession with me.

Can you guess what I've been busy with today? In shades of mint green, lime green and forest green =) I'll tell you in my next post, when I'm done with it!

That teeny little quilled rose among all the greens is my sad attempt at quilling a rose. Many times I've tried, using different methods and various tutorials, but still the perfect rose evades me. It's so frustrating! The coils are always loose so the petals are too far from one another. Any tips, anyone?

One thing to add to the List of Things to Do Before I Die : Quill a nice rose.

And just so you don't link away, annoyed at the lack of update =) here's something I worked on quite a while ago :

This is a 3-fold flowerpot accordion card.
The flowers glitter in the light, but as usual the details don't show in the photo.

Have a lovely flowery week!
